WELCOME TO CAVU

Let’s all welcome Cavu to the ELC family! ** everybody claps ** a few people cry **

Okay, not really. Here’s the real story.

HERE’S WHAT HAPPENED…
Cavu was born out of an abundance of creative fire with nowhere to go. I started Emma Lee Creative in 2016 with the desire to be self-employed, serving central Iowa with good graphic design and high quality wedding photography. After a few years as Emma Lee Creative, I found that the common ground between my design work and my photography was becoming less and less common. Eventually, I decided to separate the two.

…THEN THERE WAS THIS WEIRD DETOUR…
In 2019, I found myself falling for the skies. I began pursuing my private pilot license. As I found myself more and more immersed in aviation and finding a place in the local aviation community, I discovered my next step in separating weddings from design. It was time to merge aviation with branding design.

…AND NOW HERE WE ARE.
Two divisions of one company. ELC has two divisions: ELC Weddings, and Cavu. Think of it like Target. You have shoes and then you have office supplies. It’s the same store, different departments. I’m like a two-department, less cool Target.

OKAY, SO WHAT’S WITH THE NAME?
Cavu is an aviation term. It stands for Clear And Visibility Unlimited and refers to sky condition and visibility. It means that skies are clear to 10,000ft and lateral visibility is greater than 10 statute miles. In Layman’s terms, you might think of it as not a cloud in the sky and you can see for miles. As a branding designer, my goal is to give you what you need to take your business to new heights. I work with clients who have a clear vision for their business and are ready to move forward. My clients care enough about their goals to get involved and bring their voice to the table. It doesn’t matter if you are starting a new business or you’re taking the next steps in an already established business, I would love to take the next steps with you.

AND WHAT ARE YOU ABOUT?
I am all about the things that you get up for in the morning. Rebranding an established business is intimidating and many business owners aren’t totally sure what to expect when it comes to working with a designer. That’s a-okay with me. I know the lay of the land and I will walk with you through it. I’m basically a mountain guide for the small business owner looking to climb higher. Let’s keep the main thing the main there: the things you wake up for are the reason I go above and beyond in how I serve you.

WHAT ABOUT EVENT BRANDING? I THOUGHT YOU SAID YOU DID EVENT BRANDING.
YES! I do! Event branding is very similar to branding a business but requires a little bit heavier lifting. While a business might need a few pieces of collateral (business cards, letterhead, signage, etc.), events need quite a bit more. Event branding means a primary logo for the event, and then everything that will be needed for the event, e.g. local guide, drink tickets, event schedule, swag bags, wayfinding, name tags, keynote speaker information, etc. In addition, I can direct you to other vendors that may be able to help (think caterers, equipment rental, DJs and sound, etc.), and help you plan the event. So not only do I design for events, I love doing it!

OKAY, YOU SOUND PRETTY RAD. HOW DO I HIRE YOU?
Easy peasy! You can reach out to me via email: heythere@cavudsm.com, or call/text me at 515-318-7587. Once you reach out, we will schedule a discovery session (read: having coffee and getting to know each other), we’ll talk about the next steps, and if you’re ready, sign a contract and get your engines spinning! *Insert jet engine noise here*
